The sponsor's argument

Why Dan Stec says this is needed

St. Lawerence County's occupancy tax rate has been limited to 3 percent since 1991, which is less than those surrounding it. On April 6, 2026, the county Board of Legislators passed a resolution seeking home rule authority to increase the rate. The money would benefit county coffers and taxpayers alike, the resolution stated.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
