The sponsor's argument
Why Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick says this is needed
Volunteer auxiliary police officers in Nassau County provide critical public safety support without compensation. This legislation authorizes them to receive a modest real property tax exemption, similar to bene- fits already afforded to volunteer firefighters and EMTs, as a recogni- tion of service and to aid in recruitment and retention.
This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
