The sponsor's argument

Why Jake Ashby says this is needed

This bill will designate New York State as a Purple Heart state, enshrining into law our gratitude for the sacrifices made by wounded Veterans. New York State is already the proud home of the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor; designating New York State as a Purple Heart state would solidify our commitment to wounded veterans of our state.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
