The purpose of this bill is to require the director of the Division of Veterans Affairs to collaborate with SUNY and CUNY, to develop a Veteran Career Assistance Program. Like the assistance currently provided to SUNY and CUNY students, this program will assist veterans in translating their military experiences and skills for building a civilian resume. Further, this program will also provide employment placement services for veterans.

The sponsor's argument
In February 2016, the NYS Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Securi- ty and Military Affairs held a Round Table event to focus on Veteran Employment Opportunities. One of the private sector companies that participated discussed the importance of assisting veterans in building civilian resumes. This bill will use existing resources to establish a resume writing program and employment placement services for our veter- ans. The veterans' career assistance program should mirror the services currently offered to SUNY and CUNY students.
This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
