The sponsor's argument

Why Shelley Mayer says this is needed

The village of Harrison seeks the continued authority to impose a 3% daily room tax on any room in a hotel, motel, or similar place. This tax raises revenues to support municipal expenses while staying within the property tax cap. Initially granted by Chapter 507 of the Laws of 2016 this bill would again extend the expiration date of this authority.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
