The sponsor's argument

Why Luis R. Sepúlveda says this is needed

Packaging edible cannabis products in child resistant packaging will put an end to children accidentally consuming edible cannabis products. Many children are getting sick due to this consumption. NBC news reports state that calls to poison control centers have risen for kids ages 5 and under consuming edibles containing THC. Numbers in 2017 rose from 207 kids to 3,054 in 2021. The American Academy of Pediatrics lists this issue as one of their top legislative priorities in 2023 to keep chil- dren safe and healthy.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
