The sponsor's argument
Volunteer firefighters perform dangerous duties every day in our commu- nities, protecting our health, well-being and property. The Pound Ridge Volunteer Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association receives foreign fire insurance premium tax monies from the New York State Insurance Depart- ment. Currently, the association is authorized to use such funds only for the care and relief of disabled or indigent volunteer and exempt firefighters and their families. This legislation would authorize the Association to use the funds in furtherance of all its statutory purposes. This act would amend the chapter of law governing the operation of the Pound Ridge Volunteer Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association, in a manner similar to recent legislative updates to other volunteer fire- fighters' benevolent association charters, so that it may more effec- tively work to support the health and well-being of the association, its members, and their families.
This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
