The sponsor's argument

Why Shelley Mayer says this is needed

Chapter 505 of the laws of 2016 granted the Village of Tuckahoe the ability to impose a 3% daily room tax on any room in a hotel, motel, or similar place of public accommodation. This tax has helped raise reven- ues to support municipal expenses. The law is set to expire on September 1, 2025 and this legislation will extend the expiration date to Septem- ber 1, 2027.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
