The sponsor's argument

Why Shelley Mayer says this is needed

The Town of North Castle seeks the continued authority to impose a 3% daily room tax on any room in a hotel, motel, or similar place. This tax raises revenues to support municipal expenses. Chapter 506 of the Laws of 2016 granted the authority to the Town of North Castle; this bill would extend the expiration date for another two years from September 2025 to September 2027.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
