The sponsor's argument

Why Cordell Cleare says this is needed

The proposed Harlem Renaissance Cultural District in New York County is home to a large diverse population with a rich cultural history that stretches back at least 100 years. The Harlem Renaissance is generally defined as an intellectual and cultural revival of Black music, dance, art, fashion, literature, theater, politics and scholarship centered in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, spanning the 1920s and 1930s, commenc- ing around 1925-making 2025 the 100th Anniversary. With such a momentous anniversary about to occur, the designation of a Harlem Renaissance Cultural District is one of the prime ways that we can ensure that support for celebrations, events and remembrances.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
