The sponsor's argument

Why Pete Harckham says this is needed

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson's fire department previously adjusted its election schedule to align terms of office with the Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) pension, which operates on a calendar-year basis. This alignment ensures consistency in leadership transitions and simplifies administrative processes related to service awards. With LOSAP having successfully completed its initial 20-year period, Village residents demonstrated strong support for its continuation, voting over- whelmingly (82%) in favor of extending the program for another 20 years in 2023. This legislation comes at the request of the Village.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
