The sponsor's argument

Why George Borrello says this is needed

Gary Scott, a native of LeRoy, New York, made the selfless decision to enlist in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served with distinction as a Second Lieutenant in A Company, 1' Battalion, 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles." His commitment to his fellow soldiers and to his county was exemplified when, on March 29, 1968, he made the ultimate sacrifice to save another soldier's life. Gary's brav- ery earned him the Silver Star, which was presented posthumously to his parents, and his memory has remained a source of pride and inspiration for his family, his community, and the country. Gary Scott was laid to rest with full military honors in the Riverside Cemetery, Rochester, New York, and his legacy continues to live on. His Syracuse University schoolmates established a scholarship in.his name at LeRoy Central School, and for over fifty years, the award has been sustained by alumni of Syracuse University. This designation would not only serve as a fitting tribute to Gary's service and sacrifice, but it will also serve as a permanent reminder to future generations of the extraordinary courage and selflessness of this exceptional man. The "Lt. Gary Scott Memorial Highway" will be an enduring symbol of the deep connection between the LeRoy community, the Scott family, and Gary's Syracuse University brothers, and it will further solidify the historical significance of this area in honoring his memory.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
