The sponsor's argument

Why Anthony H. Palumbo says this is needed

This legislation allows the town of Southold to reopen the provisions of Section 384-d, together . with Section 384-e, of the Retirement and Social Security Law for six police officers employed by the town of Southold who, for reasons not ascribable to their own negligence, were enrolled in the general retirement plan contained in section 375-I of the Retirement and Social Security Law.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
