The sponsor's argument

Why Mario Mattera says this is needed

This legislation empowers schools to designate robotics as a varsity sport, giving students the opportunity to apply their skills in a competitive and equitable environment. Like football, baseball, basketball, and other traditional sports, robotics demands skill, teamwork, determination, and perseverance. These are the very traits we strive to instill in every student. By enabling schools to form varsity robotics teams, we provide more students with the chance to discover their passions and develop to their full potential. All students deserve the opportunity to build these essential skills, and this legislation ensures that those involved in robotics will have that chance.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
