The sponsor's argument

Why Pete Harckham says this is needed

This bill provides the village of Croton-on-Hudson, in the county of Westchester a new revenue source by authorizing a hotel and motel occu- pancy tax, which is a common tool used by municipalities to generate funds without directly burdening local residents. By authorizing this tax, this measure ensures that visitors contribute to the town's infras- tructure, public services, and community improvements, helping to offset the costs associated with increased tourism activity. By implementing a modest occupancy tax, the village of Croton-on-Hudson can enhance local services, support economic development initiatives, and invest in community projects that benefit both residents and visi- tors.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
