The sponsor's argument

Why William Weber says this is needed

Daniel Woolley was employed as a police officer in the Town of Clarks- town from February 1991 until his retirement in February 2023.1n Febru- ary 2024, he was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm of the heart. With more advanced imaging, two additional aneurysms were discovered in August 2024. It is with a reasonably high, degree of medical certainty that he worked with this extremely dangerous heart disease condition prior to his retirement. His retirement date of February 2023 meant that after 32 years of service he was unable to claim these heart conditions and the disability associated with them while in service. This bill would authorize Daniel Woolley to apply for an accidental disability retirement from the New. York state and local, police and fire retire- ment system pursuant to section 363 of the retirement and social securi- ty law.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
