The sponsor's argument

Why Cordell Cleare says this is needed

The Harlem Shark Bar currently operates at a location- 341 Lenox Ave, New York, NY 10027-the previous commercial use of which was a bar with a full ABC License that was approved by the SLA. The owners of the Shark Bar therefore assumed they would have no issue getting the same type of Liquor License as there had been no material changes. In SLA's investi- gatory review they discovered the existence of property belonging to a religious institution within 200 feet. As reported by the religious institution, the property in question is only used for administration, not religious services and they have no objection to the issuance of a Liquor License. This bill is needed to implement a resolution satisfac- tory to all.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
