The sponsor's argument
Under the Civil Service Law, as prescribed under Section 58, no individ- ual may take the civil service examination, nor be eligible for a civil service appointment as a police officer, at the age of 43 or older. Due to this limitation, the Town of New Paltz Police Department has requested legislation to permit one of their part-time officers, Janay Gasparini, to be eligible to take the civil service examination since she is currently older than 43 years old.
This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
