The sponsor's argument

Why Robert Jackson says this is needed

This bill strengthens NYPD recruitment and retention by recognizing relevant public safety service already performed for New York City. The "Didarul Islam Police Recruitment Act" allows members of the New York City Police Pension Fund to purchase pension credit for prior service that directly prepares employees for police work-specifically service as NYC School Safety Agents (and supervisors), NYC Correction Officers (and supervisors), NYC Traffic Enforcement Agents (and supervisors), and participation in the NYPD cadet program. By removing an avoidable barrier for experienced, already-trained city public safety personnel to enter and remain in NYPD service, the bill expands the pipeline of qualified recruits, rewards continuity of public service, and supports staffing stability-all while ensuring costs are borne by the member through required contributions and interest.

This is the sponsor's own case for the bill, quoted from their memorandum. It is not Agora's description of what the bill does.
