Summary

This bill would require the Commissioner of Homeless Services to collaborate with the Commissioner for the Aging in order to establish and maintain a watch list for vendors that provide food to shelters and senior centers. This watch list would include any food vendor contracted with the City who, in the past two years, has had been subject to at least three corrective action plans or has, at least three times, been found noncompliant with NYC Food Standards, varied from an agency approved menu, or failed to discard food ordered discarded by a health inspector. In addition, the watch list would include any food vendor contracted with the City who, within the past three years, in the opinion of the Commissioner of Homeless Services, has engaged in repeated systemic or intentional failure to provide quality food. The bill would also subject subcontractors on the watch list to withdrawal of the approval of their subcontracts. Subcontractors subject to withdrawal would be able to request a hearing to remove themselves from the watch list and prevent the withdrawal of their approval.
